Customer Case Study: Carn Engineering
Discover how Carn Engineering is driving safety and compliance with Motion Kinetic.
Carn Engineering
Based in Northern Ireland, Carn Engineering delivers statutory mechanical and electrical engineering inspections, testing, examinations and certification of workplace machinery to clients across Ireland and the UK. They also provide tailored consultancy support to help businesses comply with Health and Safety legislation.
Drawing on a wealth of industry experience, Carn Engineering works with organisations in a wide range of sectors to ensure they meet their legal obligations around workplace equipment. The business understands the operational and legal challenges associated with compliance and provides the expertise required to navigate these complexities while keeping employees and the public safe.

The Challenge
Having been in senior roles with large competitors, the Carn Engineering leadership team knew they did not want to recreate a clunky inspection reporting process with multiple data hand-offs. They had seen first-hand how this created delays in delivering reports to customers and additional administrative workloads, driving up operational costs. Carn Engineering needed a solution that would streamline reporting, cut down on unnecessary admin and ultimately enhance the client experience. While the business had not initially implemented a digital solution, its team had experiences with other digital solutions and were determined not to replicate those inefficiencies.
The Motion Kinetic Solution
Following a competitive RFP process, Carn Engineering chose Motion Kinetic as the most effective solution for its needs. Engineers now use Kinetic to update client, site and asset data while on site, finalising and submitting reports directly to clients either by email or via the Kinetic Portal. This has replaced the short-term previous system, where engineers were required to return to the office to complete reports, with a far more efficient process that removes unnecessary administrative layers.
One of the key reasons Carn Engineering values Kinetic is the responsiveness of the Motion team. The platform is already described by the business as “slick”, and Motion’s willingness to listen to customer feedback and adapt the product roadmap ensures that Kinetic continues to evolve in line with real operational requirements.

THE RESULTS
The introduction of Motion Kinetic has transformed how Carn Engineering manages their inspections and reporting. Reports are submitted to clients on the same day as the examinations, significantly improving turnaround times and enhancing customer service. Engineers do not need to complete further work once inspections are finished, which has simplified workflows, reduced administrative costs and improved productivity across the team.
Data management has also become more secure and efficient, with tools such as Super Search enabling the business to manage priorities more effectively. In addition, the improved processes have contributed directly to Carn Engineering’s strategic goals by reducing overheads and strengthening data control.
Reflecting on the partnership, Carn Engineering noted that working with Motion has been a standout experience. Phillip Patteson, Engineering Solutions Director at Carn Engineering, explains: “I have a lot of experience working with other data management and workflow partners, and Motion are by far the best at understanding our needs, responding to questions and providing solutions.”
