Double contract joy for Motion Software

ESTABLISHED software developer Motion Software has won two contracts worth more than £100,000 with companies in the energy sector.

The Aberdeen-based company, which specialises in a range of tailor-made software services from asset tracking to certification management, will provide its products to Redback Drilling Tools in 15 global locations.

Motion Software has already completed its latest contract for Aberdeen-based ATR Group. The asset management and equipment software specialist started work on the project 24 hours after being contacted by the offshore oil and gas tool rental specialist.

Motion Software will provide Redback Drilling Tools with an ‘enquiry to billing’ system using Version 3 of its Aspire product. The ‘all-in-one’ software handles a range of tasks including sales and purchase order processing, asset management, certification and maintenance and invoicing. The system can integrate with existing products such as Sage.

The software, which allows access via desktop and mobile devices and utilises web delivery for remote workers, is to be rolled out to 15 Redback locations worldwide including, Doha, Cairo, Singapore and Aberdeen.

Stephen Burt, Managing Director of Motion Software, said: “We’re delighted to have won these two major contracts. Both of the Aspire-based solutions provide ease of access, accountability and efficiencies.

“We’ve worked with Redback Drilling Tools for a numbers of years and built up an excellent relationship. This project again highlights our experience of developing and implementing global software projects.

“Motion Software has grown as a company in the last year and this is a fantastic start to 2009.”

Redback Drilling Tools Vice-President Bill Aitken, who is based at the company's global operations office in Kirkhill, said: “We've worked with Motion Software for several years and have always been very happy with their work. Motion Software’s excellent track record of handling projects for us in the past has led to them winning this major global contract for Redback Drilling Tools.”

The rolling contract with Redback Drilling Tools – part of SGS Australia – includes design, development, implementation, training and ongoing support.

Motion Software is on target to increase its turnover for 2008/09 by 50% and is in the process of expanding its current site at Grandholm’s Venue Business Centre less than a year after moving to the Bridge of Don development. The seven-year-old company is also looking to take on two more software developers and a business analyst to cope with extra work.

Motion Software’s Aspire product is used by 24 companies throughout the world and has more than 1200 users. Clients include RBG, Norco and PI Intervention.

The company also became a Microsoft gold-certified partner in 2008. The award is only given to companies that have demonstrated innovative implementation and deployment of its technology. Aspire has been developed to work with SQL 2008, while Aspire Mobile has passed the Designed for Windows Mobile standard and is the only product specifically designed for the energy sector that has this level of classification.
